Asbury Park Press Microfilm Collection

About the Collection

The Asbury Park Press newspaper, the long-time local newspaper of Asbury Park, New Jersey, is available at our library in microfilm from 1876 to the present. We keep hard copies of the paper for the current and previous months. The collection, though comprehensive, is not entirely complete, particularly for the earlier years. In addition, we regularly lend microfilm out through our Interlibrary Loan process, so if you are traveling a long distance, or are otherwise making a special trip to the library for the purposes of microfilm research, we recommend that you call ahead of time to make certain we have on hand the dates you need to access. The microfilm collection is not indexed. It is only organized by date and as a result we recommend patrons try to obtain the exact date, or as close to the exact date as possible in order make the research process a little easier.

Currently there are 3 ways to obtain access to microfilm or to conduct microfilm research:

  1. You can come to our library and search the microfilm yourself.  Our microfilm and microfilm machines are free to use for library patrons.  Noncardholders are charged a $3.00 fee to use the microfilm machine.
  2. You can request that the microfilm reels for the dates that you need to research be sent to your local library through interlibrary loan.
For more detailed information about this process read "Having Microfilm Sent to You".
  3. We can do microfilm research for you and send you the results.
For more detailed information about microfilm research requests read "Microfilm Research and Obituary Requests".
