Serving the Asbury Park Community for Over 125 Years!

At Asbury Park Public Library we offer many great services to our residents and visitors - library cardholders and non-cardholders alike. Here's a quick overview of some of our most popular services.  I

General Library Services & Offerings

Free Books

There are book shelves out in the entrance area of the Adult Library that are often loaded with books. These books are free! Take as many as you want, as often as you want. (If you need shopping bags to carry your books in, please ask at the front desk.)

Ongoing Book Sale Table - $.50 Each Book

"One man's trash is another man's long lost first edition." Come in today to check out our Book Sale Table. The book sale table is a great way for us to provide our patrons with cheap books for sale (many of which are in good to excellent condition) and raise money to benefit the library.

Community Bulletin Board

Our Community Information Center is located in the vestibule area of the Adult Library. Literature racks and bulletin boards contain lots of information about community related events, services, offices, programs, etc. Stop and take a look in your way to to find out what's being offered in the area.

Copy Machines - Only $.10 Per Page

We have a black and while laser copy machine available for public use. Copies are $.10 (ten-cents) each page. The copy machine make both letter (sized 8 ½ by 11 paper) and legal (sized 11 by 14 paper)

Outgoing Fax Services - Only $1.00 Per Page

The library currently offers outgoing fax services only. Fax service costs $1.00 per page. A confirmation page is given with each fax that is sent to indicate the success or failure of the fax.

Notary Services - Only $2.50 Per Document

Notary services are now available at the library. For a fee of just $2.50 each item you can have your document(s) notarized. Visit our separate Notary Services page for additional information.

Monthly Book Display

Each month we select a topic to highlight for our monthly book display. We try to select the best titles in topics such as General Non-Fiction, Mystery, Self-Help, Business, Sports, or Biography. We also use topics from some of the traditional monthly observances such as "Child Safety Month" or "Hispanic Heritage Month". We encourage you check out these titles, and recommend those you find interesting to others.

The Bradley Room

The Bradley Room is located to the right of the entrance/exit in the Main Room of the Adult Library. This room houses the majority of the titles from our huge Periodicals Collection. Currently the library has nearly 200 current periodical subscriptions for various magazines, journals, newsletters, and newspapers. Visit our Periodicals Collection page to view the full list of titles.

The Bradley Room Display Case

Also located in the Bradley Room is a large display case wherein we showcase local talent (artwork, crafts), other collections, and historical objects and memorabilia. If you have artwork or collections you want to show off, give us a call at 732-774-4221. We may be able to show off your stuff!


Computer / Internet Related Services

The following computer and/or internet related services are offered at the library. Some special services are available for library cardholders only. (Although we do have headphones available for use with our computers, we strongly encourage you to bring your own.)

Free Computer Use (Cardholders Only)

The library has a number of computers available for public use in both the Adult and Junior libraries. Cardholders in good standing (no fines, lost books, etc.) are able to use a computer for 1 time per day for up to 1 hour.

If you don't have a library card from our library, do not have your library card with you, or need extra time on the computer, the fee is $3.00 per hour. (If you do not have a library card, identification must be presented.)

High-Speed Internet Access

High-Speed Internet Access is available from all of the library's public computer workstations. Check your e-mail, download programs and music, play games and more using our high-bandwidth internet connection.

Free Wireless Internet Access

Wireless internet access is available at the library. The wireless internet access is free for all library patrons - cardholders and non-cardholders alike.

Although wireless internet access is free, we must charge non-cardholders a small fee of $1.00 if you need to plug your laptop in at the library. Cardholders can plug in their laptops for free.

Research Database Access

Access to various research databases is available from any of the library's public computer workstations. Many of the databases are also accessible online via our Research Databases pages in the Research section of our website. (Some of the databases may require you to enter your library card number before allowing access.)


Borrowing Related Services (Cardholders Only)

Book Reserves

If there are any books that are checked out of the library that you would like to read, you can place a book reserve, or "hold" on the book(s). We will then contact you when the book becomes available for you to check it out.

Book Requests

As a cardholder, if there is a book that you would like to read that the library does not currently own, you can place a book request for the book by coming in to the library and filling out a book request card. We will then try our best to obtain the book for you and notify you when the book becomes available.

Book Delivery

If you are a Senior Citizen aged 60 or older, and/or you are a disabled or handicapped person who lives in Asbury Park and is unable to make it to the library, we will come to you. We'll arrange a visit to your home to sign you up for a library card and set up a schedule for delivery and pick up of your library books. Please give us a call at 732-774-4221 for more information about this special service.
