A proposed diverse schedule of events will include the following:
Tuesday, September 8, 2009. Convention Hall, Boardwalk & Fifth Avenue, 11 a.m.
A marble monument will be dedicated on the southern side of Convention Hall commemorating the victims and first-responders to the Morro Castle disaster.
There is currently no monument to the Morro Castle
so this will be the first of its kind.
Various dignitaries have been invited to attend
and we urge public participation as well.

Saturday, September 12, 2009. Paramount Theatre, Convention Hall. 7:30 p.m.
A commemorative program entirely focused on the Morro Castle will be presented in the beautiful Paramount Theatre.
Admission is free.
The program will consist of video documentaries, oral presentations
and book signings.
The program is being produced by the Garden State Film Festival [www.gsff.org]
and the Asbury Park Historical Society.

The United State Postal Service will also be sponsoring a first-day cover commemorating the 75th anniversary of the Morro Castle disaster at the program, with a postal envelope and cachet specially designed for the event.
Proceeds benefit the monument fund
The Asbury Park Fire Department will also have their original, vintage 1927 American La France pumper fire engine on display,
which has recently been completely renovated
This fire engine was the first one to respond to the Morro Castle disaster.
Please plan to attend this special commemorative program and bring your children and grandchildren so they too can learn about one of the most important disasters in American maritime history.
Sunday, September 13, 2009. Tim McLoone’s Supper Club, Boardwalk & Fifth Avenue
A special “Remembering The Morro Castle” dinner will be hosted by the Asbury Park Historical Society to close out the Morro Castle memorial weekend.
Seating is limited to 100 people so please make your reservations now if you plan on attending.
The dinner/dance is from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. and tickets are $75 per person.
The dinner will consist of hors d’oeuvres followed by a three-course dinner and dessert, with a special champagne toast.
A special presentation on the Morro Castle is also being planned for the dinner.
