Getting a Library Card
If you live, work, or go to school in Asbury Park, you qualify for a free library card. We also offer free limited-use cards for those living in Asbury Park temporarily, as well as non-resident cards for $25/year. Below is a brief summary of our library card requirements and borrowing privileges. For full details, see the Borrowing Policy below.
If you are a resident of Asbury Park, you qualify for a free library card with full borrowing privileges. To register, come to the library with an active government-issued photo ID and proof of Asbury Park address. If your photo ID shows a non-Asbury Park address, please bring in a piece of mail that confirms your residency.
If you work in Asbury Park, you qualify for a free library card with full borrowing privileges. To register, come to the library with an active government-issued photo ID and recent pay stub, to verify employment. The pay stub can be presented in hard copy or digitally on your smart device.
If you go to school in Asbury Park, you qualify for a free library card with full borrowing privileges. To register, come to the library with a current student ID. The student ID can be presented in hard copy or digitally on your smart device. IMPORTANT: If you are a minor (under 18), you must also follow the cardholder policy for minors, which is outlined below.
If you are a minor, defined as a resident or student under the age of 18, you qualify for a free library card with full borrowing privileges. To register, you must provide a completed library card application signed by a parent or guardian. If a student, please also bring in a student ID, which can be presented in hard copy or digitally on your smart device.
If you do not live, work, or go to school in Asbury Park, you qualify for a paid library card with full borrowing privileges. The fee for a paid resident card is $25/year. To register, come to the library with an active government-issued photo ID. The fee is payable by cash or check only.
If you are temporarily renting or staying in temporary housing in Asbury Park, you qualify for a free library card with limited borrowing privileges. To register, come to the library with an active government-issued photo ID and proof of Asbury Park address.
