Policies Section 5: Collections 508: Bike Lock Lending Policy

Purpose: To outline the usage of bike locks provided by the Asbury Park Public Library. 

Availability: Bike locks are available for loan at the circulation desks. They are provided on a first-come, first served basis and must be returned the same day.

Eligibility: To borrow a bike lock, patrons must have a library card and an account in good standing. Guests must have a government issued ID or other collateral.

Process: Patrons and guests who wish to borrow a bike lock will be required to leave their library card, ID or a comparable item as collateral before they can retrieve the lock key. Comparable collateral items may be another personal item agreed upon with the staff at the time of borrowing.

Procedure:

• Verify if the individual is a patron or guest:

• For a patron, their record must be in good standing. 

• For a guest, an ID or an item of collateral (backpack, phone, water bottle etc.) may be provided. Staff may waive the ID/collateral requirement for known patrons or those with extenuating circumstances. 

• Ask the patron/guest if they agree to leaving their ID or collateral. If they agree, give them the lock and keep the key in the drawer. Do not collect the items until they are ready to retrieve the bike lock key. 

• When they ask for the lock key, remember to collect their ID or item as collateral before giving them the key.

Loan Period: 1 day.

Fines and Fees:

• The charge for a lost bike lock is $8.00
